What is a plastic granulator

Jun 17, 2025

Plastic granulator generally refers to a machine that can make plastic into relatively uniform particles, which can be divided into two categories: granulator and crusher.

There are various types of granulators available, including bar cutting, grinding surface cutting, water ring cutting, underwater cutting, and flat plate cutting. The final particle shape can be cylindrical (bar cutting), spherical (grinding surface, water ring, underwater), or cubic (flat plate cutting).

Crushers are used to break down waste plastic products into small pieces and can also be reluctantly incorporated into granulators. However, the resulting products have irregular shapes and large particle size distributions, and are rarely used separately.

For granulators, there is another non-standard term in the plastic industry, which refers to units that manufacture plastic particles, including feeding systems, single screw or twin-screw extruders, pelletizers, vibrating screens, batch mixing and packaging equipment, etc.
